Jack Kevorkian otherwise known as “Dr. Death” died today at age 83. He is known for helping more than 100 people end their lives by assisting in their suicide. Kevorkian has been hospitalized for the past two weeks due to problems with his liver and heart. According to the press he has liver cancer and he died from a blood clot in his heart.
He was a pathologist and caused a debate over assisted suicide. He helped the sick and suffering people end their lives. Some people view him as a a hero and others view him has a cold-blooded killer who preyed on those suffering from chronic pain and depression. His most famous clients were middle aged women.
He has been charged and has beated Michigan prosecutors four times before his conviction for second-degree murder in 1999. This was after a CBS News program aired a video of Kevorkian administering lethal drugs to a 52-year-old man suffering from Lou Gehrig’s disease. He was imprisoned for eight years. As a condition of his parole in 2007, he promised not to assist in any more suicides. He had to leave because of poor health.
His story is still in the public eye because a famous HBO documentary and film have been made about him. “You Don’t Know Jack,” starring Al Pacino, brought him back into the limelight last year.
